Making “x” is a fun way to learn the letter and how to recognize it. While it can be difficult to find a word that starts with the letter “x”, it is a fun and easy one for preschoolers to learn how to make themselves. This letter recognition arts and crafts activity uses hands-on techniques to help them learn the letter “x” in a fun way! This can be combined with our fox activities in the North America Activity Plan for more fun ways to talk about “X”.

What You Need:
- Popsicle sticks
How to Learn the Letter “X” Arts and Crafts Activity:
First, Paint the popsicle Sticks.
Show your little one how to paint each popsicle stick, trying to cover the entire surface.
This is great for fine motor skills as they have to hold the stick with one hand and paint with the other. Offer assistance according to their ability.
Make the Background.
While the popsicle stickers are drying, let your toddler decorate the background of their paper.
Give them freedom to create with paint, markers, crayons, etc. to make a beautiful background.
Make the “x’s”.
Now it is time to practice the letter “X”!
When the popsicle sticks and paper are dry, show your little one how to make “X” using the popsicle sticks and glue them to the paper.
Fill the paper with “X”!
Add finishing touches!
When they have filled the paper with “X’s”, give them the time to add any finishing touches they may want to the background. Set aside to dry completely so the “X’s” don’t fall off the paper.
